Every eBay fee to add up before you list an item

An eBay sale can carry more than one fee. Here is each one, what it is charged on, and a worked example, so you know what is left before you list.

The checklist

  1. Final value fee. A percentage of the total amount of the sale, which includes the shipping the buyer pays and sales tax. For most categories without a Store: 13.6% of the sale up to $7,500, 2.35% of the part over $7,500, plus the per order fee. Other categories and Store sellers pay different rates (see the Selling fees and Store selling fees pages).
  2. Per order fee. $0.30 on orders of $10.00 or less, $0.40 above that. It is part of the final value fee line.
  3. Insertion fee. Without a Store, your first 250 listings a month are free, then $0.35 each.
  4. Promoted Listings ad fee. Only when the promoted item sells within 30 days of a click on your ad (eBay counts watching, adding to cart or a quick view as a click). It is the ad rate you set, charged on the total amount of the sale (General campaign strategy (Promoted Listings)).
  5. International fee. 1.65% of the total amount of the sale when the buyer is outside the US and the item is not shipped through eBay International Shipping.
  6. Optional listing upgrades. Extras such as Bold or a subtitle cost more, and only if you add them.

A worked example

A $44.00 item sold with $6.00 shipping paid by the buyer, no sales tax, in most categories, without a Store. The buyer pays $50.00 in total.
