Answer · eBay fees and profit

What is the lowest price I can sell an eBay item for and still make a profit?

The lowest price that still makes a profit is the markdown floor. For an item that cost $12.00 with a $5.00 label, most categories and no Store, break-even is $20.14, and a $5.00 profit needs $25.93.

Why it is not just cost plus fees

eBay's fee is a percentage of the sale plus a per order fee, so the lowest price is the one where the sale, less that fee, less your costs, equals the profit you want. The per order fee steps from $0.30 to $0.40 above $10.00 and each fee rounds to the cent, so the floor is the lowest price from which every price up also makes the profit.

Worked floors

Most categories, no Store. Item cost $12.00, shipping label $5.00, free shipping, no sales tax.
Profit you wantLowest priceeBay's fee at that priceLeft after eBay's fee
$0.00$20.14$3.14$17.00
$5.00$25.93$3.93$22.00
$10.00$31.71$4.71$27.00

Using it on a stale listing

Once a listing has sat for months, the question is how far you can mark it down. Enter what the item cost you, your label, and the profit you still want; the floor is the price you should not go under. Below it you are paying to sell.

The calculator's markdown floor mode finds yours, for any category, with or without a Store, with shipping, sales tax and an ad rate included.
