How much does eBay take from a sale?
On most categories without a Store, eBay's fee is 13.6% of the total sale plus a $0.40 per order fee on orders over $10.00. That is $7.20 on a $50 sale and $14.00 on a $100 sale, before your shipping label and what the item cost.
The fee in one line
The final value fee is a percentage of the total amount of the sale, which includes the shipping the buyer pays and sales tax, plus the per order fee. For most categories without a Store (or with a Starter Store) the percentage is 13.6% up to $7,500. The Selling fees and Store selling fees pages list the rest.

A $50 sale and a $100 sale
- $50: 13.6% of $50.00 is $6.80, plus $0.40 per order: $7.20. You are left with $42.80 before your item cost and your shipping label.
- $100: 13.6% of $100.00 is $13.60, plus $0.40 per order: $14.00. You are left with $86.00.
Shipping and sales tax count too
The fee is worked out on the total the buyer pays. A $44.00 item with $6.00 shipping and 8% sales tax is a $54.00 sale to eBay, so the fee is $7.74, not the fee on $44.00. Sales tax is collected by eBay and passed on, so it is not part of what you are paid.
What changes the number
- The category. Trading cards, books, watches, jewelry, sneakers and others have their own rates: final value fee by category.
- A Store. A Basic Store or higher lowers the rate on most categories: is a Store worth it?
- Extras that are charged on top: Promoted Listings, the international fee and insertion fees after your free listings.
